Growing up

Suddenly, I feel very unprepared for motherhood. My daughter was looking through a new book, and said, "And this one's got a picture of the cute guy!" Then she showed me a picture of Orlando Bloom as Legolas.

Oh, my.

Oh, no.

I am so very not ready for this.

How old is she?

And Orlando Bloom as Legolas is indeed cute (surprising I can say that as I normally go more for guys some 20 years my senior. Yay for Robert Patrick and Alan Rickman! Bloom is around my age, give or take a few...I dunno how old he is.)

Eight! She is only eight!

Eight. My guess is that she's repeating what the 10 year olds are saying, although I do recall a 'serious' conversation I had with a friend in 4th grade about how 10 was the absolute minimum for starting to date, and those kids who were dating at 9 and 8 were so not right. LOL! ;)

Anyway, I didn't start to notice anything about gender and sex until I was 10, and even then not really until 12.

Maybe it's a warning so you have 2 years to prepare for the real thing. :D

What surprises me is that they really are pushing Bloom as a teen (and young teen at that) idol, even though he really doesn't strike me as one. He's in his twenties or something, isn't he? Not like say N'sync or whatever. He doesn't seem to be involved from what I can tell with kids that young. The media is just playing up the fact that every girl with a heartbeat from the age of 12 and up finds him cute, but career-wise he isn't playing to that crowd really.

I don't know, maybe pointy ears just do it for 8 year old ;) I wouldn't worry, my little brothers (they're 10) have more girl friends than guy friends at this point, and they always talk about marrying this or that girl. It bothers my mom that they don't get along with they guys as much, but the way I see it, they'll never lack for prom dates in high school. Just goes to show that your daughter is developing good taste.
