Talon of the Silver Hawk

Finished! I read it all yesterday, because it sucked me right. This book was better than the Krondor: books. It was more enjoyable and read better, and although I knew from the beginning it was the first of a series (says so, right on the cover) I still wish I didn’t have to wait for the next. For the most part, I liked how the book kept moving along, although the fast-forward time in the middle of chapters caught me off guard a couple of times – it was done well in some places and not so well in others.

I found it interesting that Feist chose to start each chapter with a short sentence starting with the main character’s name. Since he was known by several throughout the book, it sort of let you know what he would be called in the chapter. Neat.

The Conclave didn’t satisfy me completely, nor did Tal’s response to them. There was too much ‘we’ll tell you later’ for me; it got repetitive and I got frustrated that Talon was just blindly going along. There was too much mystery, as if perhaps the author hadn’t quite figured out what was going to be the ‘big evil’. I figure we'll see in later books.

The last few chapters feel sort of anti-climatic. I think the book would have ended better after Tal got his offer from the Duke, rather where it did.

All-in-all, an enjoyable visit back to somewhere familiar.
