Gardening

Jalapeno, serrano, and Thai chiles for white plastic pots. Basil, parsley, and chocolate mint. Nasturtiums. Lettuces for the copper-colored boxes. Red geraniums in a blue pot. Tree-bob the ficus, the small dwarf banana tree, and the dwarf mandarin orange which is getting ready to bloom soon. Jasmine about to burst into bloom. Heirloom tomato plants, more basil, and a bay laurel on the way from the nursery.

Ought to be lovely, as soon as I get some more potting soil. And another pot or two.

Dwarf Banana Tree
I just bought one. Any tricks? I live in Jersey. I am excited to have it. It should be delivered in the next week or so.

Re: Dwarf Banana Tree
We wanted to take it out of the pot it is in and add more soil, but nearly broke it off at the base of the plant and decided we'd just add a bit of soil over time. It did like the miracle-gro potting soil, though. We'll feed it later in the summer.

It's tropical, so I thought we might have to bring it in when it got cooler (never gets cold here) but it did okay. You'll want to bring yours inside. What almost killed our tree was the end of the winter rains, because hubby forgot to start watering it again. It recovered nicely, though, once he remembered. Looks pretty good for a one-year old plant.
