still quite surprising.
Much better watching Discovery climb into space last night. Awe, happiness,
and yearning.... Even though I know that I will never, ever go into space.
Now, about that television. See, on the last ship, even having a bit of
music playing in CSMC (Combat Systems Maintenance Central--the point at
which all of the alarms for the Combat System came in, as well as all status
reports from other watchstations) was taboo, much less watching tv. Wasn't
even a tv in the space. Here, one of the CSOOW's jobs is to monitor the
status of the received satellite television signal.
Boy is there a difference between an Amphib (ship that carries Marines) and
a guided missile destroyer (ship that protects amphibs, among other things.)
