So it's looking like I'm definitely reporting to the ship on March 7th. Just waiting for the paperwork to catch up. Minor anthill-ness at work when the food chain discovered the ship's request for the modification to my orders in the morning message traffic, but it's nice to know that they were willing to object if I wasn't willing to roll early.

So...soon there will be much less of me online, and much more of me actually earning that paycheck. American taxpayers, rejoice!

*sniff* Don't be gone too long at sea. However, if you come home with a cute salior, then I guess we can forgive you for your prolonged absence ;)

If I come home with a cute sailor, I am in such deep doo-doo with the hubby.... ;o) I'll just have to keep my cuddly former-sailor.

The ship is huge, designed for a crew of over a thousand to carry nearly 1900 Marines and their equipment, including landing craft (hovercraft!), helicopters, and Harrier jets.

LHDs are small aircraft carriers, really. It's 844 feet (253.2 meters) long and 106 feet (31.8 meters) across the beam at the waterline. Boxer was commissioned in April 1995--so it's ten years old this year.

As for deploying and stuff, well, that has to stay private for now. I'll be working full days though, up earlier in the morning and home later at night, and standing duty every few days again. And getting underway. Email connectivity should be better because of Boxer's communications suite, but internet for anything other than official business is probably iffy. (Hee! That paid-account feature to make journal entries by email will be quite handy! As will Gmail's forwarding feature.)
