Smithsonian is having an essay contest for kids ages 8-12, families, and educators.

Contest begins at 12:01 a.m. (ET) on December 15, 2004, and ends at 12:00 midnight (ET) on March 15, 2005. Each essay must be the original work of the entrant and not previously published. Essays may not exceed 750 words. Essays must be submitted using the online form. Entrants are encouraged to provide images via the online form, but not required to do so. One entry per person. Winning essays will be selected based on originality, clarity, language, and presentation. Two first prizes and three honorable mentions will be awarded in each category. The contest is open to all legal residents of the fifty United States and the District of Columbia.
