Japan, Italy, Japan

After perusing the available orders these past few weeks, I'm starting to think that perhaps Japan or Italy are in my future. There just aren't enough ship jobs out there.

Crap.

But the right degree programs are offered at both sites...close enough, anyway...and the college we're looking at here does participate in SOCNAV. Must make sure that hubby accrues enough credits for residency so that he can sign a SOCNAV agreement with them.

Argh. Why can't it be simple? There was a time when the orders offered were my dream job...and then I got a family.

Eek! That's a change! Very big one. How long might you go for?

...though on a potential upside I think Tokyo is bidding for WorldCon 2007... :D

It would be for three years. Basically, I think I have the option of rolling the dice and asking to leave in April instead of June if I see a ship on the next set of orders. But that ship has to have a female CPO rack available in addition to the ET slot. If I don't get that ship, then I'm stuck with whatever is in the hot-fill list...and that is Yoko and Naples. We've been leaning more towards Naples, because we can take the cats with a minimum of fuss...and then there's the opportunity to see more of Europe.

However, my personal feeling is that Japan would be safer. But I don't like Yokosuka at all. But the overseas allowances are better there. But we'd have to do something about the cats...

Of course, there may be no ship at all in the next set of requisitions, in which case I sit on my hands and fret. Or decide "screw it" and pick Naples. It wouldn't be so much of a problem if I weren't planning to retire in 2007. In addition to retiring from overseas, I might be on the hook for one more year. Bah! Stress!

How weird. We're considering Japan, too. Bill is actively exploring a three-year stint in Hiroshima. He's formally applied, and received FoMoCo's overseas assignments propaganda, and now we await news. If this happens, either Bill lives in Japan for three years alone and we use Ford's generous travel allowances to visit, or we move with him. Me, and the three girls, and the two lizards. Don't know what to do about the fish. It's all too much for me to grok at this time. At least we know there will be no problem taking the lizards along. There are no international regulations on bearded dragons. They can travel easier than we can.

EEEK!
Too many people moving away, potentially. Dawn, if it looks like Japan is in your future, Ernie and I will cat sit Bud and Sam while you are gone, and return them to you when you come back.

oh dear that's seven cats.

Re: EEEK!
Thanks for the offer. Samantha is such a beeyotch around other cats, though, that I suspect you'd find many patches of wetness as she expressed her displeasure.

Maybe I'll get lucky. Overseas means another year of service that I hadn't intended to give...and that would probably mutate into more so that I could retire from CONUS shore duty.

Re: EEEK!
And Mischief uses dirty laundry to pee in when she's displeased. Not a problem
